It looks like you've stumbled onto my personal journal. Welcome! I'm a 21 year old third-year university student studying at the University of Toronto. I'm an avid reader and am also quite obsessed with various fandoms. For a general overview of my interests, please take a look at my Profile.

I am currently selectively adding new friends. If you feel like we have quite a bit in common or that we would get along, feel free to leave a comment here. Please do not simply friend my journal without letting me know, however. Also, please do not add my personal journal if you're looking for my graphics. They can all be found at my icon community (See below for a link to it)

If you're new to my friends list, please take a few minutes and fill out my "Getting To Know You" survey Here!. It's a great way for me to learn the basics about you :)

1,000 Episodes in 2009

Television Challenge

Since last year's challenge of 500 episodes in one year was so easy to complete (I ended up with 1,028 episodes watched) I decided to increase the challenge a little. 2009 is looking like it will be a very busy year for me, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to surpass 1,000 episodes watched. I guess we'll have to wait and see!

Rather than listing the episodes in the order I watch them, I will be categorizing my list by show title first. I normally watch one show at a time anyway, and this way the list will be more coherent. Hopefully this makes sense to everyone!

The episodes will be listed behind the LJ cut:

Current Status: 610 / 1,000 Episodes Watched

Note:I will only be listing TV shows and episodes I'm watching for the first time. This means that while I may be re-watching Veronica Mars or Buffy for the 100th time, they will not be listed here.

50 Books in 2009

Reading Challenge

I never thought that reading 50 books in one year would pose a challenge for me, but ever since starting university three years ago I've found it increasingly difficult to find time for personal reading. I came very close to my goal last year (42 books read) but I'm determined to complete the challenge this year.

I will not only be listing the books I've read, but I will also include the book jacket description as well as a rating of 1-5 stars based on my personal enjoyment of the book and the likelihood I'll read it again.

The books will be listed behind the LJ cut:

Current Status: 58 / 50 Books Read

Note:I will only be listing books I've read for the first time. While there are books I tend to re-read every year, I will not be counting them on this list.

Friends Cut

If you can't see this entry, then I've removed you from my friends list. I would appreciate it if you could remove me from yours as well.

Let me just start by saying I hate friends cuts. I've been cut from other people's lists before, and it hurt. I had never done a friends cut up until now, but I felt a fairly substantial one was necessary. Normally I'm fairly lax about who reads my entries as I tend to keep personal issues to myself and focus on superficial, fandom-related topics instead. Recent developments in my life, however, have made me desire the use of my journal for the discussion of more personal issues, and therefore I would like to be comfortable with who has access to these entries. While I don't want to hurt anyone, I think my comfort in using my own journal should be the first priority.

Reasons You May Have Been Cut
You don't update anymore
Lack of common interests
We don't typically interact or we never really 'clicked'. This is as much my fault as it is yours. For one reason or another we don't comment on each others entries, and I share a responsibility in this.

I truly wish you all the best. I feel confident in the decisions I've made, but if you feel you've been unfairly cut, you can comment here if you like. Comments will be screened.

An Ode to Etsy

When I saw this month's [info]picspammy challenge, I was immediately struck with 100+ ideas, all of them fandom-related. Should I picspam Mad Men for the first time? Or maybe Secret Diary of a Call Girl? But when I read over the challenge a second time, I realized the only way to do something truly 'different' would be to picspam something that wasn't fandom-related. I've always been a big Shopaholic, and wear the title proudly. As Carrie Bradshaw says on Sex and the City "I like my money right where I can see it: hanging in my closet. " ;) In all seriousness though, I was delighted when I discovered Etsy.com. The idea that you can buy handmade, one-of-a-kind items for often a very reasonable price was all the incentive I needed to shop there. The items make wonderful gifts as they were made with love and care, and there are items for almost every aspect of your life. This picspam highlights just a few of the ways Etsy can enrich your life. This picspam took almost the entire month of October to complete but it was a labour of love. I've even included a few of my favourite sellers and items I've purchased myself.

Patches (our cat) has decided to curl up next to me and is keeping me company. Maybe he can nip my fingers and toes when I start to pass out on my keyboard. I never thought I would feel this tired.

Can't last much longer. Sorry for all the moaning and complaining but I actually feel sick to my stomach from the lack of any sleep.

I can't stop giggling. I'm still having an Arrested Development marathon and even the smallest joke is sending me into body-shaking laughter. I must be so tired it's making me crazy :P

I feel like I have nothing left to give, yet I still have to blog for just over 2 hours now. I think I'm too comfortable. The temptation to curl up and sleep is growing stronger with each passing post. I know I can stay awake, I just have nothing left to talk about until then :X

I had been excited to finally be awake early enough to see the sun rise for once but the thundershowers from yesterday seem to be carrying on into today. It's dark and foggy outside *Sigh* Despite all this, I will celebrate the metaphorical dawn anyway, with this lovely artwork by George Arthur Gaskell.

"The first prisoner in the first prison in Boston was the carpenter who built it. The town elders accused him of padding the bill for his own work. In 1634 a carpenter named Palmer had to spend thirty minutes in prison and pay a fine of two dollars."

I've spent the last half hour or so looking through many of the other blogs participating in the Blogathon this year. It was really interesting to see how differently people set up their journals and the charities people were choosing to blog for. I was relieved to see quite a few people blogging on behalf of animal rescue organizations. All my past philanthropic efforts have been for animal shelters and charities and this is the first year I've strayed from that. I did feel a little guilty abandoning the animals, but it was re-assuring to see many others blogging for their cause.

Something else I found interesting is the fact that the night is passing so much more quickly than the daylight hours did. This will be one of the few times I've ever stayed up for 24 hours straight. During sleepovers when I was younger and even while having my infamous DVD marathons into the wee hours of the early morning, I've always managed to grab a couple of hours of sleep. I would normally curl up and sleep around this time (5:00am). The odd thing is that I felt sleepier a few hours ago than I do now. It seems that once you get past that 'hump' from around 3:00am-5:00am you're wide awake and wired again.

"Leprosy is the least contagious of all contagious diseases."

Instead of fousing on the negative aspects of staying up for 24 hours (i.e. That I wish I were alseep right now and that I have no creative ideas left to blog about) I've decided to make a short list of positive aspects of staying up for 24 hours and doing the Blogathon.

1) Raise money for a very worthwhile cause

2) I'll be able to watch the sun rise

3) I have time to do things I may not otherwise have free time to do during the work week (Make icons, read for an extended period of time, etc)

4) I can have a DVD marathon!

5) I'm introduced to new, interesting blogs I may not otherwise have ever read or found

"Octomom's Family of 14 Inks Deals for Reality Television Show" - This news makes me sick to my stomach. This woman is evil and manipulative, and I truly believe the only reason she had these children was to pimp them out in this manner. They're just little walking dollar signs to her. She obviously doesn't care about their emotional or mental welfare or she never would have had so many children to begin with. There is no way one woman can adequately care for that vast number of children. She is a disgusting human being.

Hey! That little burst of anger woke me up a little ;)

I'm definitely starting to slow down, idea-wise. I just don't have the same motivation to put picspams and lists together :( And I still have a long way to go before 9:00am...
